I teach a creative group of students. They are inquisitive and like to question why. In our classroom, I try to bring our curriculum to life with hands-on, innovative activities. I want my students to see the world around them and interact with the materials we are using.
I want my students to put their problem-solving skills to use and know that they can make a difference in the world with the choices they make.
I want them to know the sky is the limit and that they should reach for the stars.
My Project
First grade is a magical place. It is time when we really learn what it means to be a friend and how to treat others. We become very aware of how our words impact others. For our classroom, I am always looking for ways to help promote the message of kindness and understanding. I want students to empathize with each other and to really think about their actions and the impact those actions have on others. I am requesting books that will help students learn more about each other and how to treat their friends. Daniel Finds A Poem encourages students to see the world around them through the eyes of others. Spork helps students see that we are all a mixture of different things, but we all have a lot in common. It also shows that even though sometimes we feel like we don't belong, we all belong together. Maybe Something Beautiful is based on a true story of how a young girl inspires a muralist to turn the drab walls of her community into something beautiful. This story shows how determination and teamwork can bring people from many ages and cultures together. Finally, Be a Friend shows how having a friend understand you can make all the difference. I am also asking for self inking stamps. These stamps will be used by me to acknowledge completed work and by students to send messages of appreciation to each other. Having these stamps is a fun way for students to express themselves and will inspire them to come up with their own creative sayings.
Differences should be celebrated.
Through this project my students will continue to build an appreciation for different cultures and customs. They will continue to see the joy that comes from learning about and celebrating each other.
