This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach an energetic bunch of high school students who are in our drawing and painting program. These students have such talent and drive for exploration of the different art mediums that are out there. I love watching them work, creating the vision they see in their head. When a student finishes a piece they have spent a lot of time and energy on, then seeing it matted, their eyes light up. A mat just seems to make their piece all that more special.

My Project

Presentation counts in all aspects of life, from a first meeting with a prospective employer, to meeting your in laws, the same is true with art. A piece of art that is just so so can become amazing if presented in the right way. For students who are just starting out in the drawing and painting program, seeing their art displayed hanging up on a wall or hanging up on a wall with a mat, can make all the difference in confidence, ownership, feeling accepted and attendance in a drawing and painting class. Being able to have a mat for every student to be able to put at least one piece of work in to display and take home is the goal of this funding.
