Help me give my students some Nintendo Switch equiptment for the opportunity play in a statewide Esports league and to pursue academic scholarships in Esports.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The typical student at our high school comes from the urban Cleveland area. We are a Title I school, so all of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. School is in session year-round, only having breaks for 3 weeks quarterly. Our 9th-grade school is a project-based school that focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. Because my students are among the poorest in the area, many do not have the funds for even the most basic of supplies, much less access to modern technology allowing them to fully explore their artistic capabilities.
This year our students will be taking an Intro to Computer Science course and I am hoping to provide more tactical hands-on experiences through a competitive Esports league.
My Project
Because we are such a small school, sports are not provided, and if students would like to play sports they need to travel to another school by their home to play.
We finally have the opportunity to play in a competitive Esports league and possibly have a chance to receive scholarships to several colleges in Ohio that are developing computer science programs and gaming leagues for their students.
Not only will the Nintendo Switch and gaming headsets requested give the students a chance to play on a competitive schools sports team, playing Esports also provides students with additional opportunities in the school, and helps build teamwork and communication skills. The core foundations Esports is built on a strong work ethic and helps students manage and overcome high-pressure situations. It also teaches them how to be self confident, which are all skills they will need in high school, college, and beyond.
