Although our school is in a low-income neighborhood, we are a community full of talent, especially in the arts. We are seeing more skill and talent each year. Among a classroom full of students who are new to art, we have a growing number of gifted and talented artists who LOVE to create. These students complete projects and assignments with that exceed expectations. They are often making art inside and outside of school and they are hungry to create and learn.
My Project
In the art classroom, our middle school students make treasures from wire, clay, magazines, and even newspapers. They don't require many materials to create masterpieces. However, to preserve what they create they need mod podge! Mod podge is pixie dust in the art room. The glaze to a doughnut! Cover a collage, sculpture, pottery with mod podge and everything becomes better! Our projects become sturdy and permanent!
We may not have a kiln to fire our pottery, and we may not have much space to keep these art projects safe in the classroom, But once the masterpieces are glazed with mod podge, they go home to be treasured forever.
