Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This DonorsChoose project will inspire all of the students at the elementary school level. The students this project is supporting come from low-income families who have limited resources at home. Many of the students in the lower grades have a limited English proficiency and thrive on visual aid supports! With our neighborhood school being rebuilt during this school year, the students will be in a transitional year between distance learning from home, a potentially limited return to school after the COVID-19 pandemic, and learning at a temporary school site. While these challenges are only a moment in time for our students, the stress of the unknown is very real for them.
Being able to provide more school supplies while we are distance learning will help to support the students with the tools they need to complete tasks while they are learning from home.
The opportunity to provide school supplies as needed learning tools can help to enhance literature-rich activities is just what the students need during this unusual school year. The students will benefit from being able to understand, comprehend, and manipulate new innovative ideas that can help them express their feelings, ideals and intrigue towards their own learning.
My Project
The school supplies will allow students' to be able to complete assignments from home during the Covid-19 closure. These common school supplies, normally provided at the school level, will give students the ability to engage in Social Emotional Learning lessons, construct necessary materials for SEL activities that that they can complete from home.
Whether we are distance learning or back to face-to face instruction, the students will have the necessary tools to utilize to continue their SEL learning with their instructors.
The instructors will be able to expand on the students' SEL lessons knowing that each of their students have the proper learning tools to complete their lessons and activities from home!
