Solving Worldwide Scientific Problems in a 4th Grade Classroom!

Help me give my students hands-on activities for their Science core in 4th grade. We explore energy in completing a circuit, (snap circuit kit) converting solar energy in solar ovens, and carrying loads with wind turbines.

This project expired on May 17, 2022.

My Students

My 4th graders are hopeful and inspiring students who make a choice each day to sit up straight and listen and try their best during this pandemic. They inspire me as they show up after a death of a family member from Covid or a devastating side effect of this pandemic. They are so creative on social media and enthusiastically engage in technology with manipulating sound waves, researching Utah's history and heritage, and creating fun Flipgrids. These kids create and expand on games in recess, including their peers and resolving conflict. They quickly sign up to do classroom jobs that involve service first. I am surprised so many want to carry the recess balls or lunch boxes everywhere! These kids are an inspiration to teach!!

My Project

Energy is always around. Can we learn how to convert it? Can we use renewable resources such as the sun and wind to carry loads or cook? Through these resources, I will be able to give students a chance to put together a circuit in a group or individually. They will be able to use the sun's power to cook a dessert in class. They can see how a wind turbine works, create their own, and then reflect on what we do locally with wind turbines to create energy for our city. These hands-on activities solidify their learning and enable them to connect to real-world issues we have about using energy.
