Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Global awareness through interactive technology! I teach a fifth grade class of 24 students in a high-need community. We are a Title One school, with a large percentage of English language learners. My class is also an Exceptional Children's inclusion class, with students ranging from an early second grade reading level to eighth grade reading level.

The majority of my students do not have access to technology resources at home. Technology highly motivates them and provides a novel avenue for learning. Since many are below grade level, this ipod will allow them to read on grade level content with support of the digital audio.

In connection with our focus on climate change and global warming, students will be able to read texts independently while listening to them on the ipod. These can be digital books that relate to our curriculum or recorded information from our textbook (or other resources). Students will also see firsthand how alternative sources of energy (such as solar power) can be used to provide needed energy now and for the future since the charger for the ipod is solar powered.

You will make it possible for my students to gain knowledge about climate change and alternative sources of energy while exposing them to technology tools for the 21st Century.
