We all know that mornings are hard. Mornings are especially challenging for my fifth graders who come to school at 7:20 am! Ouch! Now imagine that early time along with all the physical and emotional changes that are starting in these ten- and eleven-year-old bodies. My class is coming to school just plain exhausted in the mornings! Traditionally, teachers have used seatwork as a time filler as the class gets settled. This just doesn’t work when students aren’t ready to learn. I have wondered and wondered how to improve our mornings and maximize our learning time.
These games, activities, and art supplies will energize my students’ brains setting us up for a successful day.
Play is a critical part of learning. Being able to explore and choose preferred activities will enable my students to regulate their emotions, settle their brains and build a community. With these products, my students can quietly draw and color. They can make conversation with friends over a game or puzzle. They can build teamwork skills and confidence so they can participate throughout the day.
