My 3rd grade class is from central Indiana. They are a beautiful mix of cultures from all over the world. Each child has diverse learning goals so it important for me to expose each student to a safe classroom environment not only where he/she can come to share his/her ideas but also learn in various ways.
Each morning my students come into my room for a soft start instead of sitting and getting right to academic work.
They get a chance to warm up their brains. My students get to choose from a variety of hands-on activities to warm up before we dive into the curriculum.
My Project
Each morning when students enter my classroom, we begin with a soft start. Students may read, write or draw. I want them to have time to warm up their brains before we start the day with academics.
By starting our day off with a slow start, students will have the opportunity to warm up their brains with desired STEM activities.
These activities, which include Legos, ramps, magnets and vehicles will allow my students to explore a variety of hands-on concepts as they begin their day. Each child will have an option of what suits his/her needs and interests and will have a variety of options each day according to what he/she feels like doing.
My students will be able to collaborate with each other while exploring the STEM materials of Legos, ramps, magnets and vehicles. This will help warm up their brains before we jump into our math curriculum. Having these STEM activities would really benefit all of my students needs and let them explore in a creative way.
