Having a few comfortable places in my classroom will encourage kids to sit and read like we would as adults. I would never grab a book and go sit on the floor. I am trying to foster a love of reading and from the data I collected, my students want a place they can curl up and relax with a book. Most of them told me during reading conferences that they like to lay in bed at home and read. I would love to be able to provide an opportunity during Daily 5 where students could relax and enjoy reading independently.
