This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

In our self-contained autism classroom, we serve an amazing group of students with autism who have varying abilities and sensory needs. Providing these students with alternative seating choices allows them to feel more secure in their learning environment and comforted when they have a difficult time relaxing in their seat due to sensory overload. At present, our classroom has very limited carpet space and only one or two students can enjoy this space at a time. I would like to set up two more comfortable learning spaces so that all of our students have the opportunity to benefit from having a safe and comfortable spot for learning, relaxing, and/or calming themselves when upset. Having these spaces also provides students with a space for practicing naturally occurring social interaction skills, crucial for students with autism.
