My Students

I work in an inner-city school that houses approximately 650 Pre K-Grade 6 students. Eighty percent are high needs students. Forty-five percent are English language learners. We service over 200 autistic and special education students. Our preschool program provides a developmental curriculum in an inclusive environment.

Our 3 preschool classrooms service seventy happy, playful and eager to learn 3- and 4-year-old students, with 63% being special needs.

Our program is based on the belief that “quality early childhood education programs will ensure the healthy growth of a future generation and provide the foundation for lifelong learning. Through a classroom that promotes the development of positive personal relationships and utilizes a variety of hands-on experiences, children gain confidence in their ability to explore, question, discover, solve problems, integrate knowledge, think critically and take risks.”

My Project

Our preschool classes spend a lot of time sitting on the floor during what we call "Circle Time." Circle Time is when teachers can lead group activities through direct instruction. It is a time for students to share, sing, communicate together, listen to stories and learn new concepts.

Sitting on the floor, even with a rug, can be uncomfortable and tiring for 3 and 4 year olds.

These soft, comfy seats are perfect for our little learners to sit comfortably, in a designated place, that will keep them from fidgeting and bothering their circle neighbors. Plus, they are vinyl and can be cleaned easily!
