I am a first grade teacher at a public elementary school in NW DC. Our students are linguistically, ethnically, culturally and socially diverse, creating a wonderfully rich background for sharing and learning. First graders spend lots and lots and lots of time sitting, reading, sharing and learning on the classroom library rug. So what happens when your library rug... well, isn't so inviting anymore?! Answer: You ask the generous donors at Donors Choose for another. I've picked out a beautiful new rug for our classroom library, a place where our new readers become inspired as they select books and begin the life-long journey that becomes a love of reading and learning. The rug is colorful and inviting and will make the children want to read and linger in the library. We also use the library space in our classroom for small group instruction. Needless to say, this is a high-traffic and much-loved area of our room. We hope that with your generosity we'll be able to roll up our old library rug with the old year, and roll out the new with the new.
