Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come into my classroom full of life and energy! I refer to us as a "squad" rather than a class because I want them to have a sense of community when they are with me and feel like they belong somewhere. Our school has a very diverse population and I want to bring all of my students together through reading and writing. It is my hope to inspire a spark in them so they develop a love for lifelong learning!
The students are 5th graders from an urban school in Connecticut.
Many of them don't have someone to read with them at night partly because many of the students come from households where English isn't the primary language. They are excited to explore the possibilities reading and writing can bring to them and I am excited to hopefully provide all the supplies they will need!

My Project
Throughout my training to become a teacher and the beginning of my career, I have noticed that the social and emotional needs of my students are not being met and there really has been nothing implemented to change that. There are students everyday suffering from anxiety, depression, or other types of mental illnesses and there is nothing being done about it or very little taking place in the classroom to help them.
I vowed to make it my mission to implement activities inside my own classroom to address the social and emotional needs of my students!
These books and resources will provide me with the data, information, and tools to help educate my students on their own feelings and emotions and give them strategies to regulate them.
