Help me give my students floor furniture and books to allow students to spread out and have their own space to read comfortably and safely. The iPad is for a positive reward system and displaying student work with social distance.
I teach reading to a combination of hybrid and fully remote 5th grade students. There are a variety of learners including special education students in our classroom. We follow the Bookworms curriculum. I am looking for more books and flexible seating to provide safe small group instruction during COVID-19.
My Project
Covid-19 has completely changed the format of reading small groups. Students are limited to their same seat for the majority of the day without the use of our regular small group seats or a carpeted reading area. The furniture in this project would allow students to change their setting in a safe and comfortable manor for a specific time each day. This will make for a better approach to reading small groups as well as independent reading. The books in this project were also specifically chosen based on student needs and reading reviews from other teachers.
Covid-19 has made it necessary for a child to have their own individual book that cannot be shared.
The combination of the furniture and books should give the opportunity for students to develop their skills and a better love of reading. The iPad would be used for positive reinforcement that includes Class Dojo since our previous coin system can no longer be used. The iPad would also be used for a mobile way to display student work on the SmartBoard because of social distance guidelines. Overall, the items on this list would greatly improve the flow and routine of the classroom during this challenging time.
