My Students

My school is a Title I elementary school, serving students in grades k-4. My school serves a very diverse population of students, with 97% of our student population receiving free or reduced lunch. Our students often come to school without basic school supplies, which means many of the extra needed supplies are provided through donations. Despite the diversity and economic hardships, our students are among some of the brightest in our district, easy to engage, and always eager to learn.

My Project

Social studies is an important subject that is often put on the back burner, due to lack of time in the daily schedule. It is my hope that my students leave my classroom with a strong knowledge of basic social studies concepts. Our textbook is somewhat outdated and doesn’t always support our standards, so I am constantly looking for resources to help supplement the curriculum, while sparking interest with my students.

The TIME for Kids magazine subscriptions I am requesting will be used as a supplemental resource to integrate reading, social studies and science.

TIME for KIDS will expose students to nonfiction texts, which will help improve reading and vocabulary skills. By donating, you will not only add an extra resource to our classroom, you'll help increase reading achievement, build vocabulary and expose students to current events around the world.
