My Students

I work at a K-8 school in a middle-class neighborhood in Phoenix, Arizona. The school serves over 900 students. The school services a variety of children with disabilities who are included in the general education curriculum. Each student also has their own behavioral, social and emotional goal for the year. My Project

Social skills development is an area that my students need to work on. Each requested book teaches a different social skill that my students are lacking.

The kid-friendly books will help my students learn a variety of new social skills.

For example, one of the books is Personal Space Camp by Julia Cook. This lesson addresses the importance of respecting other's personal space while at school. The books are sorted into different units: classroom rules, school rules, student behaviors, and social skills. Each book has a follow-up lesson. The follow-up lesson includes discussion questions, an anchor chart, a written reading response, an illustrated reading response, and a directed drawing.
