When the students saw the updated furniture and books, they were in complete awe! They could not believe all these items were for them. Each day, we have a random drawing, for students to enjoy the bean bag chairs and weighted animals. Students are more engaged in their buddy reading when they get to use our new seating.\r\n\r\nDuring our free moments in class, students are more likely to choose, reading over technology. In one project, students act as paleontologists, carefully examining the fossils to identify their characteristics and hypothesize about their environments. A standout moment was when a student excitedly identified a fossilized leaf and connected it to a prehistoric climate they had studied earlier in class.\r\n The students were fascinated when they first saw the kit. Their excitement was palpable as they eagerly picked up the fossils and examined them with magnifying glasses. One student said, \"This is like holding a piece of history in my hand!\" It was wonderful to see their curiosity come alive.\r\n The next step is for students to create a \"fossil timeline,\" where they will place the fossils in chronological order based on their research. This activity will help them understand geological time and the evolution of life on Earth. They'll also present their findings to the class, honing their communication and critical thinking skills while deepening their appreciation for Earth's ancient history.","fullyFundedDate":1647139986430,"projectUrl":"project/learn-from-the-past/6278970/","projectTitle":"Learn From the Past","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. C.","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3712257_orig.png?crop=759,759,x48,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1646967253813","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3712257"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_123146","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":704,"numTeachers":44,"percentFrplEligible":13,"percentAsian":9,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":64,"percentIndigenous":1,"percentLatinx":16,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"1 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"16.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"UNCLASSIFIED","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_FRINGE"},"inStateSupporters":80.4,"schoolId":123146,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Sonoran Foothills School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Sonoran Foothills School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/arizona/deer-valley-unified-school-district/sonoran-foothills-school/123146"}
