Social Skills, Fun, and Games for Autism Awareness
Help me give my students My Feelings game, Jumping Jack, Pop Up Pirate, and other games to build socialization skills and address speech delays related to Autism.
My students are special in many ways. As their speech teacher, I work on improving a wide range of communication skills. My students with Autism often have difficulty expressing themselves socially. Some of my students struggle academically. Some of my students do not speak at all. I strive to find interesting and creative ways to motivate my students to express themselves and communicate effectively with those around them.
The students I work with have Autism, intellectual disabilities, or learning disabilities.
Whether these students are in specialized classrooms or are part of the general education setting, I work to address their needs in fun and engaging speech sessions. A majority of my students come from low socio-economic backgrounds. Despite the obstacles stacked against them, these students come to school ready and eager to learn. They rely on me to meet their speech goals and improve their communication skills.
My Project
Autism often affects my students' motivation to engage with others. My students with Autism tend to isolate themselves from others. They need exciting games and materials to get them interested and get them talking!
Social skills are significantly impacted in my students with Autism.
The cause-and-effect games I've requested, such as Pop Up Pirate and Jumping Jack, will excite my younger students and motivate them to communicate with their peers. The Social Situations photo cards will help my older students discuss social situations and practice role playing. These new materials would address the full spectrum of my students' needs and help my students with Autism to break out of their desire to isolate themselves. These interactive games and materials would be a great tool to help my students with Autism learn, talk, and socialize in fun and functional ways!
