Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are in a class that helps prepare them for a future career in education. Currently, the mix of students is 9-12th grade and 5 students in the class are males. We are diverse groups of learners (multiple students with IEP/504 plans, low socio-economic as well as high achieving students.

My Project

Students will be able to connect to their learning of San Diego and the history of upper California. They will get to learn about the changes to the area from the conquest, to exploration as well as the founding of the Missions.

Students will learn about the significance of social justice by visiting Chicano Park and the socio-political climate that helped create this area as a people's park.

They will also learn about the importance of how social change can happen even when the odds are stacked against them. I will be taking students to an area that most have never been.
