Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students come from places near and far, speak a multitude of different languages and are from cultures that are often left out of popular YA novels. Some of my students were born in the United States and some just immigrated this year. I'd like to create a classroom library for the 6th graders that highlight anti-racism, cultural diversity, and encourage my students to read.

The pandemic hit my 6th graders hard and they basically missed out on learning how to read more advanced books in 4th and 5th grade, so I hope these books will ignite a love of reading.

I also hope that the books start important conversations about race, diversity, and accepting others with love and kindness.
