Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
Many of my students need to have their social/emotional needs met in order for them to be successful in learning.
This year I want to really focus on providing them materials that they can also access themselves besides the lessons that are provided to them These materials include social/emotional/mental health literature and games to work with other students. Many of my students receive social work in the school but need additional support in the classroom with the materials that would come from this project.
My Project
The social-emotional/mental health books are books the students can read at their level. In addition, they are graphic novels which will allow the students to have visuals as they are reading. In addition, the games will allow the students to work with their classmates on identifying their emotions. These materials will make a difference because it will allow them to identify what they need as a person for their emotions. This, in turn, will allow them to focus on what they also need academically. Overall, the students will then be able to take what they have learned and contribute back to their peers and family by demonstrating how they are able to identify their emotions and needs.
