My students need character education literature as well as STEM materials to do projects in which they will be able to apply some of those social emotional skills they have learned from the character development books.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are diverse learners. The majority of my students are learning English as a second language and need a lot of visual support as well as hands-on materials to learn vocabulary and apply it to academic skills.
I also have many students who are significantly below grade level and need lower level skills practice and students who are well above grade level, who need to be challenged.
My students utilize a variety of activities to support their academic needs. We do a lot of center, station, and project-based learning which requires me to make a variety of activities that are multi-leveled.
My Project
This year I am incorporating SEL (social emotional learning) into my classroom. This curriculum is designed to equip students with social emotional skills that will help them within the classroom, as well as outside of the classroom. Students with good social emotional skills will be successful in the real world when it comes to problem solving, critical thinking, collaboration, conflict resolution, self regulation and empathy.
Two ways students learn best are through literature and hands-on activities.
I have several character development books that I have requested in this project that we will read and discuss as a class community. I am hoping that my students will be able to identify and connect with these characters and learn from their experiences and take away some strategies to apply in their own lives.
Some other items I have requested are finger lights and blocks. I will be utilizing these activities for STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) projects. Students will be doing a lot of designing, creating, observing, building, problem solving and collaborating. These types of activities will allow students the opportunity to work with each other and practice some of the social emotional skills that they will have learned from the character development literature.
