My Students

My students love to read! My students attend a public school in an extremely diverse city.

Within our own classroom, we have at least fifteen different nationalities/cultures present.

Although the students come from different economical backgrounds, they love to come together as a community on the rug in the classroom. This is a place where they can all share stories, as well as read stories and articles from all different cultures. They are very interested in the world around them.

My Project

My students need books to discuss their social emotional needs. During morning meeting, we discuss topics such as respect, responsibility, kindness, acceptance and team work. Each month, we pick a topic and dig deeper into it. The students need materials to read and discuss. We need a wider range of books to discuss real life issues that arise and how to deal with them. The students really enjoy this time in the classroom and it opens up a lot of different conversations. Many students look for a safe place to have these conversations. These books will help students through their daily struggles.
