My Project

Social Emotional Learning is an important process through which all people acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring. The items that I am requesting help me in my classroom in several ways. The books are important part of teaching the different emotions that students are feeling. Some students have strong feelings that they do not know how to process in a constructive way and by reading stories and having discussion students will have opportunities to discuss what they are learning and how they are feeling.

I also believe that flexible seating options allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them.

Sometimes, students may want the flexibility to choose a location in the classroom that works for them. Currently my students are choosing to work in a variety of locations in our room such as: at different tables, the rug, on balance balls, or even sitting or laying on the floor with a board. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them and helping them feel like they have control over their own bodies and space. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. They are more engaged and less disruptive when they have choice. The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. I have seen how choice can positively affect my students work and demeanor and hope that the additional options will help us grow even more!
