My Project

My students need supports to understand their feelings, emotions, and to build self confidence and agency. Picture books are a very warm and welcoming way to introduce skills and to cover needs in a comforting way. These books cover important topics, like courage, liking yourself and self acceptance, the importance of early reading skills, being positive, and mindfulness supports like breathing and listening to our bodies.

Picture books give students doors, windows, and mirrors; diverse social emotional learning texts allow students to see themselves in stories, making valuable skills more relatable and attainable.
