My Students
Our school is filled with students Pre-K- 5th grade. We use Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and teach all children 3 universal expectations. Every rule we teach can fall under respect yourself, respect others and respect your school. At our school, we believe in learning about the whole child.
Social and emotional learning is just as important as academic learning!
Our students are very diverse. We have students from various nationalities and different socioeconomic backgrounds. We have a wonderful culture at our school and strive to help students when they are struggling. We have created safe spots, sensory breaks, mindfulness times, implemented yoga and more to help children with self control and controlling emotions.
My Project
I am requesting a library of social emotional books such as "The Invisible Boy" and "Wilma Jean the Worry Machine" for our teachers to share. Book topics include respect, kindness, making mistakes, how to be a friend, accepting feedback, and much more. We will place all of these books in one location for teachers to have access for teaching throughout the year.
Books are a wonderful way to teach and reinforce social and emotional learning. Our teachers need access to more specific titles and topics, and having one central location will benefit the whole building. Social emotional learning is very important for children and this is one avenue to help teach the skills.
