My Project

My 8th graders at our school are at a crucial stage of their development where social and emotional learning plays a significant role in shaping their overall well-being. Incorporating crafts, such as bracelet making, into their educational experience provides an avenue for self-expression and creativity. Engaging in hands-on activities like crafting fosters a sense of accomplishment, boosting their self-esteem. Crafting can be a collaborative and enjoyable experience, promoting teamwork and communication among students. Many of my students have expressed interest in the colorful friendship bracelets I wear each day and I'd love to give them the opportunity to make them at school and exchange with friends. The goal is to build a classroom community at our school, but also give them an outlet for emotional expression, allowing my charismatic, full of life 8th graders to navigate and understand their feelings in a supportive environment.

My kids like to be kids!

They love playing board games, team-building activities, and cooperative games together because it allows them to connect, problem-solve, and practice conflict resolution skills. These experiences contribute to the development of empathy and self-awareness, vital components of social-emotional learning. I need more materials and games to make this happen more frequently because I can see how allowing them to be kids and play throughout the week impacts their energy and performance in class!

Integrating technology into the curriculum is equally important. As my students reach for their phones, I'd rather them reach for educational apps, interactive simulations, and virtual reality experiences. This not only makes learning more engaging, but also provides a monitored platform for students to explore emotions, resilience, and interpersonal skills digitally on a classroom iPad. Combining crafts, games, and technology creates a holistic approach to social-emotional learning, catering to the diverse needs of my 8th graders. Thank you!
