My Students

This year I'm fortunate to teach third grade. My school has been designated a Title I school. The students live in low socioeconomic neighborhoods and receive free lunch. Most of the students are Black, Latinx, or Indigenous.

Each day my goal is for them to forget about their problems, and help them fall in love with learning.

I work hard to enhance the academic potential of all of the students and believe that they deserve the best of everything!

My Project

In the current state of the world, students are dealing with a lot physically, mentally, and emotionally. These things contribute to making it more difficult for them to focus during the school day. Additionally, most of the time they do not know how to deal with the various emotions that arise.

Therefore, I'm requesting a classroom tent and other materials that will provide a safe space for the students to go to "Calm Down.” Having a place to go when they get upset, frustrated, or angry will help to promote self-regulation skills which will improve their social-emotional health.

Cushions will be placed inside for students to sit or lay comfortably on. Within this "Cozy" area books on social-emotional topics will be available for reading. Bins with fidget toys and stress balls will be provided to help students relax. Finally, feeling charts, pencils, crayons, and papers will be provided for the students to write or draw about their feelings. As a results, students should be able to make it through the day!
