This year the majority of my students are encountering their first time in a school setting. They are coming from a low-income area of Ohio. They need a lot of one-on-one help, as they are three to five years old, and some with learning disabilities.
My students are very energetic and eager to learn, and they have a lot of fun doing it!
With every lesson taught, the students are expanding their minds. I have many students that will be going on to kindergarten next year, and I plan to have them equipped with all the skills that they need to be successful in their academic career.
My Project
95% of my students are from low income families.
With the growing abuse of illegal drugs, my students are coming into my classroom exposed to drugs either in the womb or outside of, leaving most of students unable to deal with their emotions.
I am currently following the Becky Bailey's conscious discipline method. I encourage the students to make good choices, be mindful of others, and self regulation.
Every morning we start the day doing yoga stretches, singing a good morning song, and reading a social emotional book. I am currently rereading books as I am limited to the books on social emotional issues. I would also like to be able to loan the books out to families, so they can also help in this area we struggle in.
