The preschoolers have always enjoyed the light table and now have new materials to explore with it. \r\n\r\nOne of our themes is light and shadows. The materials that were recently acquired were able to be used during this theme. The children were able to use the crystal climbers to experiment with shadows by placing their creations on the light table and moving them around to see if the shadows would change.\r\n\r\nThese materials were able to be used to grow creativity, social skills and fine motor skills. We have a felt board on the back of one of our shelves but its old and does not hold pieces to it very well. The children were able to use the small tabletop felt board along with the story pieces independently. Some children worked by themselves putting the pieces on randomly, while others worked with their classmates to put the pieces up in order to retell the stories. \r\n\r\nThere were many smiles as the children sang the Itsy-Bitsy Spider song working together. Even when we were done using the materials the children continued singing the song. They have been very beneficial with our theme of wind, water, and weather. The variety of colors of construction paper have been handy when the children were making rainbows in the art area. After the children painted with the colorful paint during small group, we used eye droppers to drip \"raindrops\" on their papers to see what would happen to their masterpieces. The glue sticks were used to add cotton balls to shape construction paper to create clouds that we hung around our classroom. We used tissue paper cut into squares to create raindrops that we hung with some of the clouds. \r\n\r\nOur next theme is bugs and insects. We are making bugs and/or insects out of modeling dough. We will use the paint to decorate the bugs after they dry. The children absolutely love sharing the masterpieces they create with their families.\r\n\r\nThank you for allowing these materials to be available to my preschoolers. They made comments such as, \"Ms. Vickie I love the new things you got for us.\" or \"Ms. Vickie did you go to Walmart to get these?\" I told them that some people, that we don't know, were kind enough to purchase these items for us to have in our classroom because they have big hearts and want us to be able to learn. They were very surprised that \"strangers\" would be so nice.\r\n\r\nI am looking forward to our upcoming theme on growing where we will set up the dramatic play area to represent a doctors office. The children will be able to use the doctor kits to treat one another or the babies. Once again, without donations from generous people like you, my preschoolers may not have been able to have the same experiences.
