Since COVID-19 resulted in school closures, many students did not get much opportunity to collaborate or "hang out" with peers their age. They were only able to communicate virtually. Now that my students are coming to school in person, they are learning to navigate friendships and collaboration.
I am asking for snack to help encourage students to come and collaborate in a safe space to help with their social-emotional learning.
Students come into my class before school, during recess, during lunch, and after school. They work on projects for class, play games together, and develop key social skills.
The most commonly asked question when they come in is "Do you have any snacks? The snacks provided by donors will help encourage students to come to my room and associate with their friends in person. It also will help provide them with healthy snacks instead of the junk food they sometimes bring. The healthy snacks will improve their ability to function academically in school.
I also need storage bins to keep these snacks away from bugs and away from walkways. I also need some additional shelving and bins to help organizer further.
Studies have proven when students spend time together, they are not just having fun, they are developing social skills, communication techniques, and building emotional connections that help with their mental health.
