Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach around 290 eighth-graders at a Title I school on the East side of San Antonio where the majority of our students come from low-income families. We have a very diverse group of students who are eager to learn. One hundred percent of our students also qualify for a free lunch. Many cannot afford even basic supplies, so we try to provide everything we are able to for the students that are needed along with extra goodies as rewards. I teach a majority of Hispanic and African American students, a large percentage of English Language Learners, and special education students.
All our students are bright, capable young people who can achieve everything they set out to do.
Our school strives to help them with all their goals. The teachers at my school work together to give our students the best educational opportunities possible. Our school is known as the Pride of the East Side, and they are the mighty Cougars.
My Project
I coach boys soccer 7th and 8th grade teams. We are practicing three times a week and have already started having matches on a weekly basis. I would love to give my players healthier snacks during practice and during our games. Because we do not have any budget, we rely on donations for our players to get any snacks or Gatorade for their matches.
I would like to be prepared for all our practices and games with a good snack and drink to keep them going throughout their soccer season.
