Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a Title 1 district where over ninety percent live below the poverty line.
Despite the various challenges they face every day, they still come to school every day full of energy, eagerness, and ready to learn all that life has to offer them.
My Project
Myself and a few other teachers run Soccer Club at my school several times a week. Where we are located, organized sports are difficult to sign up for and so for many, this is the only chance they have to play on a team and learn the fundamental skills to play a sport we all love.
My Project
My school is ninety percent under the poverty line in a rural area outside of Fort Worth. Organized sports are not readily available for our students and many would not have the finances to participate even if they were. To help those with the love and passion for soccer, we run soccer club several days a week at our elementary. Any students are welcomed to attend and that puts a strain on what we are able to do effectively due to the limited resources we currently have. We have an open field, but we are in desperate need of more equipment to have a better ratio for the kids to truly get to learn the sport we all love. Having goals to practice with will help the kids tremendously by being able to actually see a full size field to practice positioning and to use the skills they learn in drills in an actual setting. Goals will also help with shooting and goal keeping drills since we currently do not have actual goals.
