Soaring to Success in Kindergarten!

My Students

The students at my school are from a rural farm community. We have a small school at the edge of a large corporation. Our students come from all socioeconomic backgrounds. We are lucky to have great families that work hard and are involved in our school events, but we don't get a lot of extra funding from the state. This is due to our school not qualifying as a Title I school. Title I schools have a higher level of free and reduced-price lunches than we currently have.

My sweet kiddos are hard workers, but they have lots of extra energy and thrive during hands-on activities.

We try to keep moving around our classroom several times throughout the day to help with this. I also have tried to incorporate a flexible seating environment to keep their little bodies wiggling, while engaged in learning, while at our seats. We have had a lot of success when we use hands-on manipulatives and activities.

I love to provide learning opportunities that will get my students moving, thinking, and stimulating their learning by creating.

My Project

My students love to learn using hands-on activities and manipulatives. In order for us to be successful in kindergarten we need to have lots of activities to keep them engaged. I am requesting a set of alphabet books that the kids can read on their own using picture cues at the Reading Center. Then a set of hands-on math learning games to help us practice measuring, sorting, and counting. The Splash Jr. games will help us focus on letter identification, beginning sounds, and rhyming. The thing I am most excited about are the letter tile sets. Especially with all the Covid restrictions each child will have their own presorted set ready to practice building words by sounding them out. All of these activities will give my young students an opportunity to be be successful with lots of hands-on practice.

All of these amazing hands-on reading, letter, and math learning activities will keep them active, engaged, and learning!

I am so excited to create some more amazing learning opportunities for my sweet kiddos by providing them with new hands-on activities to keep them busy learning.
