Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Cold and flu season is almost here and we want to stay healthy this year. We will eat right, stay warm, get our sleep and exercise and even get our homework done. But we need a classroom environment that will help us fight colds and flus. Being sick and missing school is not fun!
My six wonderfully diverse middle school students with autism face many challenges in the world.
They attend a specialized school in a high poverty neighborhood in NYC. They all have limited social skills as well as significant language deficits in both expressive and receptive language. The majority are non-verbal and communicate by alternate modes.
My Project
Tissues, soaps, hand sanitizers, paper towels, wipes and gloves will help our class stay healthy and wise. The students will learn the importance of the steps that they can take in school to stay healthy during the cold and flu season and not to spread germs when they cough and sneeze. And when they do, the importance of covering their noses and mouths, using a tissue and cleaning their hands.
My students need to learn daily living skills in order to live independent lives.
It is important for them to know not to spread germs through open mouth sneezing and coughing. Having the tissues, soap and hand sanitizer at their disposal will be a step towards teaching them how to protect themselves and others from colds, the flu and spreading yucky germs.
