This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work with a group of dedicated, hard-working, eager-to-learn seventh and eighth graders from low-income backgrounds, many of whom come from single-parent homes, while some live with grandparents and/or relatives. Many of my student population come with IEPs which require individualized interventions to help all students succeed. This comes with varying levels of learning challenges and more effort on my part to keep them engaged as often as possible. When expectations are set high and excuses are left at the door, success is a requirement as opposed to an option.

Having the necessary personal hygiene products will positively influence the SEL aspect of their education which includes the thoughts, feelings, and actions of my students in ways that enable them to succeed in school.

My students are seventh and eighth graders who are dealing with changes in personal hygiene and physical changes, so there are a lot of uncertainties going on in their young minds. My main focus is to always try to teach them about manners, hard work, organization, and dedication, that you can learn from your mistakes, to help each other, that they are worth it, and to treat everyone fairly.

Oftentimes, students may come in and it is evident that they do not have the necessary hygiene products at home for effective self-care. This will allow all students to have the necessary products to care for themselves and look their best. Having Oral-B Pulsar Expert Clean Battery Toothbrushes on hand will keep them feeling fresh and confident while eliminating any biases that may have arisen over someone looking, smelling, or seeming to be "different".
