This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
As a teacher, I hope to give my students an environment where they feel supported and loved. School should be their safe and happy place, a place where they can develop themselves and their futures.
I teach in an extremely diverse public charter school, where more than 50% are considered at-risk and more than 25% are English Language Learners.
Our school is located in a historic neighborhood in Washington, DC that is known for its rich history of art and culture.
My students are kind, curious, and animated. Many of my students face hardships in and out of school, and I want to alleviate their in-school experience as much as possible. I want to create a positive classroom experience so they can achieve their maximum potential.
My Project
Our school year has been turned upside down so many times due to COVID. Between switching between three sections and moving throughout the building, we have to make sure we are clean before each rotation since we share desks, chairs and computers.
We need basic cleaning supplies so we can ensure the room is clean before we begin learning.
They Lysol and hand sanitizer will be used to clean hands and surfaces. The tissues will be stored around the classroom to minimize movement. Masks will be reserved for when something happens to a child's existing mask and we need a replacement. We also need new whiteboards and pencils so kids do not have to share.
