As a special education teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, I have students who are faced with several challenges due to their disabilities both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. Many of them are being raised in single-parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical". From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives; however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hoping to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
I have prepared a warm, welcoming, and comfortable classroom.
I teach elementary school math and science. That in itself means I NEED a ton of cleaning supplies. I will use the Clorox wipes and the Lysol to keep the classroom sanitized and clean. I will use the Febreze to keep the air fresh and clean and the Kleenex tissues for the little student noses that often get sick throughout the year. I also need borders for our 16 bulletin boards as well as a laminator to laminate classroom papers.
Having these cleaning supplies will provide my students with a clean room to do their best work.
A clean and healthy learning environment is very important due to many students missing school due to being ill. With the cleaning supplies, we will be cleaning our desks, chairs, and manipulatives.
