I work with a group of 7th graders who are strong, inquisitive, and resilient. They crave information and experience. They are open to new ideas and challenges. They inspire me to improve myself as a teacher and a member of society. They deserve every educational opportunity I can offer them.
Our school has a strong sense of community that has been built by students who support, encourage, and challenge one another, and a staff that is fiercely dedicated to our mission.
Our students engage in programs and activities to strengthen our school community, including our Peer Buddy program and annual student created and student-led staff restaurant for our Exceptional Student Services population, twice a week community and self awareness classes (called PLUS Class), and our alternative program within the school for students struggling with traditional schooling. The students at our school truly emulate acceptance.
We have the greatest kids! I cannot wait to see them grow and learn this year. I am excited to see what they have to offer and what they have to teach me this year.
My Project
Our school has a unique population of students with many different needs. Boys account for 57% of the population. In addition, 48% of our students are from low-income families and our population of students with disabilities is 10% higher than the state average. These kids are strong, resilient, and crave knowledge and experience.
An interactive and hands-on approach to education is essential for this unique population of students, but unfortunately, due to limited funding, some opportunities are not available without donations.
By donating to this project, you will help provide the opportunity for our 7th grade students to see how body systems, organs, and tissues interact within a real organism by participating in a frog dissection, something that has not been available to our students in the past. Students will also be able to make real connections in our comparative anatomy unit as we look for evidence of change over time. This will be an experience students will not forget as they engage in and become excited about life science.
