Snail Mail: A Contemporary Flat Stanley Inspired Project
Help me give my students the opportunity to participate in a contemporary Flat Stanley inspired project as they send and receive post cards to me. They need blank post cards, stamps, copy paper, stickers and envelopes.
Tucked away between public housing, private homes, a high school, and the subway sits a wonderful Title I school. One that is currently EMPTY! "Have a great weekend." "See you Monday." "I will miss you too!" This was the typical buzz on Friday, March 13 as I dismissed my children for the very last time. On this day children left not knowing that it would be their last time sitting in that very classroom with me as their teacher and their Kindergarten friends beside them. That Tuesday I returned to set up a Google Classroom account, create packets that would last until Spring Break and took home a laptop. No one really knew what it would look like or what we would need but I felt that we would shortly return.

How could I possibly prepare for something that has never happened before let alone something I just did not see lasting this long? We are currently learning and working remotely at home. My children and parents are doing great with it! We are all learning together even this teacher.
My Project
Although we are not physically in school I am still looking for ways to engage and have fun with my children. They miss me and only I know how much I miss their smiling faces. My students will be thrilled to attend a bedtime story of Flat Stanley by Jeff Brown, then excited to know that they will receive materials to create their own Mrs. Rodriguez adventures. What a great way to encourage a love of reading, imagination, and adventure!

The requested stamps, postcards, laminating sheets, and Exacto knife will help me create a modern-day Flat Stanley project for my children. In this book Flat Stanley goes on adventures as a "flat" boy and although 'special' he goes through exploring life with his family and learns new things and goes on a new adventure every day.
I would like to send each of my children a laminated Bitmoji of me on a popsicle stick that they can explore with and write about daily. In order to create these, I will need the laminating sheets, knife, hot glue, and popsicle sticks. I will send them postcards along with my Bitmoji that they can take outside, make new clothes for and read with. They will even get an arts and craft eye mask they can decorate and explore with. Each week they will use one of the postcards to write about an adventure they had with me and mail it to me. I cannot wait to see their postcards and to respond. Please help me keep my kids learning!
