My Students

The students that are in my classroom come from a culturally diverse, urban area of Iowa. There are many ethnicities at our school with a large population of English Language Learners. My students come to school every day to feel loved and supported while they get a quality education; they show up ready to learn and have fun! I want my students to be academically, emotionally, and socially ready for life, and I can help them with this through the way I teach literacy.

My Project

Snacks are a great way to keep students engaged with their learning. Many students come to school hungry which interrupts their ability to learn. Providing a snack when necessary, or using the snacks as a means of motivation is a wonderful way to help students. Students love to complete extra tasks or help another student in order to "win" a snack! But most importantly, students need food basic needs to be met.

Without a basic need met, students cannot be successful in other ways.

Schools provide so much for students and giving out a snack can mean a lot for some students.
