This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach in an urban preschool setting. Each of my four students have special needs and require significant support. Because my students are non-verbal, we rely heavily on visuals in our classroom. We also focus on sensory supports to help students feel comfortable and focused while at school.
My goal is to create a safe space where my students with unique needs can learn and experience success.
Because of this, my classroom looks significantly different from a "typical" classroom. We have a large sensory table that we use daily, a kitchen set, a block area, accessible art materials, a quiet area, and a library center.
My Project
My students eat lunch before 11 AM each day, but we don’t dismiss until after 4 PM. This makes for hungry students every afternoon. I supply a snack to each of my students every day, and send snacks home when necessary, but I’m hoping this project will help alleviate that cost for me.
It has been proven time and time again by research that hungry students cannot learn to their fullest potential.
Help me help my students be their best while at school. Not only will these snacks benefit my students, but a few students who ride the school bus I monitor have told me how hungry they are when they get to my classroom at the end of the day. I always send these students home with snacks as well.
