My Students

My classroom is home to 120+ freshman every year in Brooklyn, Ohio for their first high school English class. Brooklyn is a small community in which there are many generations of the same families as well as an influx of newbies each year. Many students have been in the same classes since kindergarten while others come to the district for the first time as high school students.

Ambitious, lively and positive, my students look forward to coming to school each day.

They each come with their own passions and struggles, but they know they can achieve their goals when they set their minds to it. New technology and opportunities are being added to the district each year, and they truly deserve every advantage that comes their way. I consider myself lucky to be one of their first high school teachers and strive to ensure they know they can all become successful!

My Project

Students are asked to sit through many different classes on a daily basis, and many find it hard to stay focused. While gaining knowledge should be enough to motivate students, sometimes, teachers need more to keep students excited and engaged in the curriculum.

It is no secret that students can be very motivated by food and rewards.

These snack chips and cookies will provide a goal for students to work towards while completing valuable class assignments.

In addition to classwork, students are given rewards for participating in a rewards App called Pocket Points, which encourages them to turn their phones off and be present for the lessons.
