Recharging our brain starts with a good snack! We as adults do not function at our highest potential without food, so why should we expect kids to do it? We need snacks to help us work to our highest ability throughout the day.
My class is a class of 25 kindergartners with unique personalities and varying academic levels ranging from kindergarten to second grade.
We are a kindergarten ICT class, 40% special education students and 60% regular education students. My students are part of a larger school community of about 700 students. Compared to other New York City Schools, we are much smaller. While our small size has a lot of pros there are also many cons; one being the lack of space that our school has along with a smaller budget. While we try to use our budget wisely providing a great number of resources for our students, we often do not have many of the things that we need to help all our students be successful.
Remember when you would go to Kindergarten in the morning and get to go home at lunchtime? The days of half-day Kindergarten are over, and Kindergartners now attend school all day. Kindergartners face the challenge of staying engaged and on-task during a long, full school day. It is very difficult to stay focused on learning when you have an empty stomach.
We are requesting snacks such as crackers, fruit snacks, chips, and goldfish that will provide many nutrients and minerals that a growing Kindergartner needs between meals.
Snacks will help my students' brains and bodies get the extra boost that they need to do their very best in our classroom. Please help us get snacks for the classroom!
