I feel so fortunate that I get to continue teaching at a rural elementary school in Oregon. The school houses grades K-8 and many of the students have a long bus ride to get to school. I am excited about the fact that I get to teach these students! Smaller class sizes will allow for more individualized teaching.
This school, community and the teachers are a family.
There is one other teacher and an aide at the school with me. I will be teaching all subjects (including P.E., Music, and Art) to students K-3 while my childhood friend teaches fourth-eighth.
I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity not only to teach with one of my childhood friends, but to teach these students. They are kids growing up on ranches, who ride the school bus a long way just to get to school. They are hardworking students who want to be the best they can be!
My Project
I would like to provide my students with snacks like goldfish, pretzels, and granola bars to give their minds and bodies the nourishment they need to learn.
My students ride the bus for as long as 45 minutes to get to school.
They also get up early as our school starts at 7:35. Some of the students aren't hungry at 5:00 am when they get up, but they are hungry when they get to school at 7:30.
I would like to be able to offer these snacks to the kids so they have something in their bellies in the morning to start the day off right! I want my students to do their best at school and they have trouble doing that when they are hungry!
