The storytelling puppets help the students retell a story that they might not be able to write yet.\r\nThe sensory beads will be used in our Calm Down Corner. Neurodiverse students need an opportunity to regulate themselves in a quiet area in the room. Once they are regulated, they join the class again. The books are a great addition to our spring selection. \"I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Clover\" and Shamrock were hits among my younger students. They love all of the \"I Know an Old Lady\" books, and we can read them year-round. My younger students know the pattern of these books and start to repeat after me when I read them. They really feel like they are reading.\r\n\r\nThe stamps will be used for the rest of the school year to mail our March -May school newspapers. Each month, our school sends out a school newspaper to about 100 community and family members. Our students write the articles for the paper, type them, and proofread what they have written. They also fold, label, and put stamps on the paper to send them out. This is the 10th year with our school paper, and the community loves it. Our students enjoy being able to regulate their emotions by taking 5 minutes to work with slime. By having these small containers of slime, students can pick out different slime, and mix in other sensory items like beads, and buttons. It really helps with self-regulation.\r\nThe sensory sand can be used the same way as the slime, but I also use it for my younger students and have them add in buttons, find them and pull them out of the sand. They are able to work on both gross and fine motor skills.\r\nThe spiral notebooks will be used for our interactive notebooks. Currently, we are making an interactive reading notebook as well as a grammar notebook. My younger students enjoy playing with our regular Magna-Tiles, so I thought why not try Alphabet Magna-Tiles. Well, they have been a hit! The magnets click when they are put together, so the students really feel like they are building words. The finger spacers are for my beginning writers so that words aren't crowded together when they are writing. \r\nThe Play-Doh is used by all of our students for everything from stress relief to making shapes, to learning how to form letters. They love the light-up marbles. We have been using the Ready to Write Cards for my beginning writers.
