I am a 9th year teacher who teaches third grade on an Indian reservation. My students generally come from low-income families, so they are unable to help. I am trying to provide a daily snack for my little growing minds. I have provided this snack for many years but I am no longer able to. My students are motivated to learn and do their best even when they can’t control what’s going on outside of school. I love that my students love school and see it as a safe place.
My Project
If students are provided a snack they are happier and more willing to learn. They are not thinking about how hungry they are or when is lunch. Kids are constantly burning calories and they need energy to keep going through a long school day. This snack or morning oatmeal has helped students start the day out positively. I have provided these snacks or rewards in prior years, but I'm unable to now with an increase in students and cost. I believe it helps students, and when they are growing they need energy. This snack could be used prior to our reading block or after last recess. The rewards are generally used after reading or math homework. Many of my students look forward to it daily. Please help me continue this.
