Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students live on the Yakima Indian Reservation. It is an agriculturally-based community. In winter, many families are struggling to make ends meet. My students come to school with joy in their hearts to learn.
During the 7-hour day they get hungry and need a small snack sometimes before the end of the day.
Many of my kids have a long commute home and a snack can hold them over. Although they eat at school, their growing bodies need more.
My Project
These snacks will make a difference in my students' lives by curbing the growling and rumbling that happens to little people's tummies as they grow, learn and play.
Kids need to have snacks to keep them focused on learning, not on their growling stomachs.
I recognize the importance of providing them a snack because it also helps build that sense of community in our classroom. It will provide a sense of security for my kids when they see the snack cupboard full instead of empty, which is our current situation. Please help fill their tummies and provide them with something to eat and enjoy at school.
