My Students

I am a first-grade teacher in New Mexico. I work in a Title One, low-income school district. I have a very diverse classroom consisting of many different ethnic backgrounds. I have students requiring special education, students who need a student assistant team, students who receive Title One reading coaching services, and students who receive Title Six Native American academic assistance. Some ELLs (English language learners) speak Spanish at home. One hundred percent of the students in our school receive complimentary breakfast and lunch.

Due to funding cuts in New Mexico, classroom teachers in my district are not receiving much money from the state and district for essential resources.

They are personally responsible for purchasing basic materials and supplies to keep the classroom running.

My Project

I request water and snacks such as crackers, granola bars, and fruit snacks for my students during recess and field trips. The majority of my students come to school without a snack. Over the last few years, I have asked for parent volunteers to donate a snack for these kids. Over the years, I have had some issues with parents donating snacks for the class. For students to succeed in school, they need food, water, and shelter. I can provide the top, and with amazing volunteers like you, we can provide food and water.

This year, one hundred percent of my students are on a free lunch program, and most of their parents do not send them to school with a snack.

I teach six and seven-year-old kids who are increasing. These students need to have snacks every day! I would love to be able to provide a snack for my students!
